As an exchange student in Japan at Osake Seikei University I got the assignment to make a chair that would fit into a traditional japanese home.

I researched japanese furniture and houses, and found out that in most japanese houses they have tatami mats on the floor. Therefore it was neccesary to consider how the furniture meets the floor without leaving any marks and combine that with the starkness of Japanese design.

It is common to see Japanese people sitting on the floor with crossed legs (Agura position). And by making a wide seat close to the ground I made it possible to have a very comfortable seat in this position.
