Comfortable Captivity
Comfortable Captivity is a commentary on contemporary lifestyle simulated in a miniature environment. The piece is composed of a birdcage with a miniature tree that seem to be growing inside. A self portrait in the form of a printed version of the artist himself is sitting on a central branch and is looking out towards the only possible exit.
The piece is meant as a portrait of the modern life of people choosing the easiest and safest way instead of exploring new environments and challenges. By mixing contemporary 3D printing technology and handmade techniques Benjamin Nordsmark create a bridge between the past and the future to question the way we sometimes struggle to move forward by still keeping strong roots in our past.
The piece touches on contemporary social questions that should again trigger the attention from the audience and allow them to reconsider the way they decide to live their life and hopefully inspire them to challenge themselves.
